Committee and political group meetings, Brussels




Brexit/Erasmus. The Culture and Education Committee will discuss, with the Commission, contingency measures to ensure that people who are abroad on an Erasmus+ funded activity will not have their mobility period interrupted in the event of a no-deal Brexit (Monday).


European Solidarity Corps. The Culture and Education committee will vote on the budget and new priorities for the 2021-2027 European Solidarity Corps programme. The programme would include humanitarian aid activities outside the EU and should allow at least 350 000 young Europeans to support communities in need through volunteering, traineeships and job placements (Monday).


Justice Programme. The set-up of a new Justice, Rights and Values Fund is up for a vote by the Civil Liberties and Legal Affairs committees. It funds actions aiming to promote rule of law and judicial cooperation, as well as facilitating access to justice for everybody. MEPs’ amendments widen the scope to include promotion of gender equality and support for lawyers working for civil society and for journalists (Monday).


Plenary preparations. Political groups will prepare for the 11-14 February plenary session in Strasbourg, where MEPs will vote on legislation on screening foreign investments, EU 2021-2027 investments in all regions to boost economic, social and territorial cohesion, as well as motor insurance. They will also vote on the trade agreement with Singapore and the EU strategic communication to counteract propaganda against it by third parties. The debate on the future of Europe will continue with Italy’s Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.


President’s diary. EP President Antonio Tajani will meet with the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Andreas Norlén, on Thursday.


Media seminar. The EP press service is organising a seminar for journalists on “The Digital Single Market – achievements and challenges”. MEPs will present rules adopted during this term and ongoing files in this area, including on copyright reform, as well as discussing challenges for the next Parliament, particularly on artificial intelligence (Tuesday and Wednesday).


Pre-session press briefing. The EP Press Service will hold a press briefing with the EP’s political group spokespersons at 11.00 on Friday (Anna Politkovskaya room, press centre, Brussels).
