Committee and political group meetings, Brussels

Brexit. The EP’s President and political groups’ leaders (the Conference of Presidents) will discuss with EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier the state of play in the Brexit process(Thursday).

Replacement of two Commissioners. EP committees’ chairs (the Conference of Committee Chairs) will hold an exchange of views with the Romanian and Estonian Commissioners-designate, who have been put forward to join the outgoing Juncker Commission for the remainder of its term (Wednesday).

Plenary preparations. Political groups will prepare for 16-19 September session in Strasbourg, where MEPs will debate Council’s proposal for the EU budget for 2020 and vote on whether to recommend Christine Lagarde as the new President of the European Central Bank (ECB). They will also be voting on the mobilisation of 293.5 million euros from the EU Solidarity Fund for natural disaster aid in Italy, Romania and Austria. Political groups will also draft their written questions to commissioner-designates, in the run-up to the parliamentary hearings.

President’s diary. EP President David Sassoli will meet Spain’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell on Monday, UEFA General Secretary Theodore Theodoridis on Tuesday as well as Maurizio Landini, Secretary General of CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labour), on Wednesday.

Pre-session press briefing. The EP Press Service will hold a press briefing with the EP’s political group spokespersons at 11.00 on Friday (Anna Politkovskaya room, press centre, Brussels).
